IN LOVING MEMORY

Roy Lee Lyles

Sep 10 1931 - May 08 2023

Roy Lee Lyles of McKinney, Texas, passed away on May 8, 2023, at the age of 91. He was born on September 10, 1931, to Jim and Jimmie D. Lyles. He attended school at Midway, Scott County, Mississippi. Roy married his dear friend and childhood sweetheart from grade school, Hazel Nicholson.  They married on August 27, 1951.  God is Good, 71 Years.  Roy was baptized at an early age and was a member of Balucta Missionary Baptist Church, Scott County, Mississippi where he served as a Deacon.

He was drafted in the United States Armed Forces and after his duties were over, Roy and Hazel relocated to Oakland, California.  He had a generous soul. Roy would always look forward to the family trips back to Mississippi.

In Oakland, California, where Roy resided and retired, he was a member of Peoples Baptist Church where he also served as a Deacon. He was always available when needed. His favorite hymn request from the church members was “This Little Light of Mine.” Roy would have the members shouting with joy!

Roy was a loving husband and father. He was a good provider and so proud of his family. He adored his grandchildren and had a special individual relationship with each and every one of them. I am sure they can tell you great stories of their Grandpa and Great-Grandpa. He loved spending quality time with the family. He would tell his grandchildren fun stories of when he was growing up. He really enjoyed telling them spooky stories. He would have a great time laughing and teasing them saying, “Ah, I’m just kidding.”

Roy also loved fishing with his family.  He was always ready to help, whether it had to do with working in the yard, painting or just taking time to discuss life challenges, he was there.

He is survived by his wife, Hazel Lyles of McKinney, Texas; son, Roy Calvin Lyles and wife, Linda of Justin, Texas; daughter, Regina Coleman and husband, Ronald R. of McKinney, Texas; grandchildren, Tyra Fulcher and husband, RRamon of Frisco, Texas, Maurice R.
